AT THE END OF MARCH IN FRANKFURT WAS HELD THE LIGHT + BUILDING 2018 FAIR. THE FAIR, TAKING PLACE EVERY OTHER YEAR, FOCUSES ON LIGHTING, INCLUDING BOTH TECHNICAL AND DECORATIVE LIGHTING SOLUTIONS, ALSO PRESENTS THE LATEST PRODUCTS AND TRENDS IN THE LIGHTING WORLD. THE COMPANY LATERNA MAGICA ALSO VISITED THE FAIR AND NOW WE WANT TO SHARE OUR LATEST IMPRESSIONS WITH YOU.
Warm color metal in various shades continues still to be popular. The legendary handicraft lighting fixtures manufacturer Vistosi for example had put instead of presenting new products more emphasis on offering the most famous products with new finish such as brass, bronze, copper, etc.. Especially remarkable was the prominent Vistosi luminary Peggy that now also comes with a bronze finish. The Brand Van Egmond, a luxury handicraft lighting manufacturer, also introduced various finishes to their popular models introduced at Salone del Mobile fair last year.

Many lighting manufacturers offered solutions that allow to bring lights to different parts of the room using only one electric conductor. This option helps to resolve situations where, for example, is only one wire in the concrete ceiling but one wishes to place the light also elsewhere. Among others demonstrated their own decorative solutions Vesoi, Masiero and Egoluce.

The technical solutions prove that much attention was focused on the color temperature of the light. Many manufacturers have introduced the Dim to warm solution, that allows changing the temperature of the light as needed. For instance, if we want brighter light when we wake up in the morning, we may pick the 4000K, but we also can choose a softer 2700K light for a cozy dinner.

The technical capabilities of LED strips and modules allow one to create a wide range of geometric shapes. This year in addition to the minimalistic angular shapes, many manufacturers presented curved and rounded shapes that allow a designer or a client to put together a profile that suits their needs. Such solutions were presented among others by the Italian lighting fixtures manufacturer Artemide (A.24 Magnetic Track) and Lucifero’s. Artemide also presented the Soft Alphabet offering different sizes and heights of the light arches that may be used according to one’s fantasy!

So-called portable lights have also become very popular since it is possible to charge them and take them with you anywhere – to the terrace while having a picnic or even traveling. In addition to the small table lamps that have already been offered by quite a few manufacturers are now also available pending lighting fixtures. For instance, the German lighting company Nyta introduced a pendant luminaire that uses a rechargeable battery and may be used even in the garden on summer nights. This kind of luminaire is ideal in case there is a need to place it in a room without a necessary cord or if you want to move the lamp quickly and comfortably as needed.

The Italian design lighting manufacturer Davide Groppi also offers the rechargeable QuiQuoQua lighting fixture that is lacking a cable and may be mounted with the help of an extremely thin wire. This solution makes this luminaire extremely minimalistic and aesthetic.

For us, the most innovative and exciting solutions were presented by Artemide. All the Artemide exhibition models were either completely new or innovative improvements to the existing collections.
One of the most eye-catching exterior light fixtures was definitely “O” – brilliance in it`s simplicity.

nh1217 series is simple and practical. In the new pendant luminaire model the white handmade glass sphere can be moved along the luminaire frame exactly to place where you want the light.

And of course none of Artemide’s novelties presentations would be complete without Michele de Lucchi’s contribution. This year was introdused the new Ipno lighting series created by the mentioned architect and designer of the legendary Tolomeo lighting fixture.

The Calypso luminaire presented at the Salone del Mobile was updated to a profile light fixture. This is a perfect example of a case that profile luminaires do not always have to be simple and boring – Calipso completely transforms our understanding of the decorative profile.
